Taffy - 8 years old (Fostered in Durham, NC)
Hey there!!! Laffy Taffy here with a quick update. I have been in my foster home for a week now and I am really settling in!! Foster mom (FM) has had a few friends stop by and if you let me come up to them, I LOVE friends!! I still like to be outside a lot and I even taught myself how to use the doggy door. When FM is home, I like to run outside for a few minutes, then come back in to make sure she hasn't left me yet. Then I run back outside, check on mom, repeat. I could do this all day!!!! I have discovered deer antlers, which I really love. I am working on liking my crate. FM gives me a yummy treat-filled Kong when she leaves now, so I don't mind it nearly as much. I am getting along well with my foster brother, but he doesn't like to play, so... But, FM says that's a good thing, because I am not supposed to be playing anyway. FM says I have these worms in my heart that could make me sick. She says we are taking our time killing these worms, so I just take a heartworm preventative treat every two weeks, along with twice daily antibiotics. I eat all of these up easy-peasy - I don't even need cheese or PB!! I also still had my girly-bits - FM said I was used as a breeder or something? I don't know what that means, but I sure know I had a LOT of babies. But, the doc took those bits out last week and I am all good to go. When I first got here, I didn't have leash manners and I pulled mom all over the place. But, we have walked a few times this week and I discovered that if I walk nicely and don't pull - FM gives me treat!!! I LOVE TREATS!!! I will do most anything for treats. I came in underweight, but I seem to have added on a couple of pounds and am up to 43 pounds on my girlish figure.
So, despite still having heartworms, my bags are packed and I am ready for my new home. I don't know about kids, but because I like to do the approaching when meeting people, FM doesn't think young kids are a good idea for me. I am not telling whether or not I like cats, but I don't care about the gray fluffy things in the yard!! Pick me, pick me!! Do you have treats? Love y'all - Laffy Taffy.
3/30 Update Hello CBR FANS!!!!!!! Welcome to (almost) the last day of March. Where in the world did the time go?? I feel like just yesterday I was arriving at my new foster home and now it has already been three weeks. Yeesh!!!! So, my life has been pretty steady for a while and I am kind of liking it! I am still getting along well with my foster fur-brother, even though he doesn't like to play. I get the zoomies around the backyard occasionally and I LOVE to go for walks and rides in car. I am getting much better on leash when I use an "easy-walk" harness. And i LOVE hot dogs. Foster mom (FM) says I walk like an angel when I am rewarded with yummy bits of hot dog. I am doing better when meeting people - I much prefer if they are seated and not so threatening when they tower over me. FM says I am getting more confidence as I learn more manners - I just need to know that I can make good decisions on my own!! An obedience class with my new parents would be lots of fun so I can learn to trust you and you can learn how best to help continue boosting my confidence. I went to dog wash place and was sooooooo good, I even got a treat when I was spic and span. I really am a sweet girl and would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to find my fur-ever home so I can get settled in and learn that there ARE people in this world that will love me and treat me right. Won't you be my new mom or dad????
Hey, hey!! It’s Laffy Taffy here!! It’s been a while since I checked in, so FM says I am overdue. I am making progress, albeit slowly. I have a new foster sibling – an adorable little dachshund – who I really seem to like. She is a good leader, so I am picking up on some of her cues – like when I don’t have to worry about FM leaving me when she showers. I have even cuddled with her a few times!! Because I am still so nervous, FM is looking into training classes for me to help me gain some confidence. My new friends, the Pages, sent me some awesome toys and the doxie and FM are helping me learn what they are for. Until I get my nerves under control, FM says I need to go to a calm home with no kids (they just move too fast!!!). I can handle one or two other dogs, but no more than that. Also, I just need to be honest here – I take a while to warm up to new situations. I know I am safe with FM, and I would be more than happy to meet you here at her house. And I pretty much love everyone who comes to visit me here. But we just have to take things slow while traveling to your place and when we get there. I haven’t had many experiences (good or otherwise) in my life, so everything scares me – I just don’t know how to respond. I promise though – I am trying REALLY, REALLY hard to be brave and trust and learn. Thanks for checking on me – maybe you are my fur-ever home!! Got patience? – Laffy Taffy
