Weezer - 4 years old (Fostered in Bluffton, SC)

8/21/19: Weezer is a big, jolly teddy bear! He currently weighs 78lbs. He’s working hard with his personal trainer/dietician (me) to reach his ideal weight of around 70lbs.! He is most likely a Boxer/American Bulldog Mix... or possibly an American Bulldog/Boxer Mix! He is extremely handsome, sweet, and loving. He desperately, more than anything else in life, just wants to be a GOOD BOY! Once he believes and accepts that you are his leader, he will do anything you ask.

He has learned so many things so quickly in the 3 weeks he’s been with us. He has learned to sit and wait patiently to be allowed to go outside, to eat, and to leave his crate. He has also learned not to be possessive of toys/bones, people, or space. He said to me, “Who knew these are essential traits of BEING A GOOD BOY?! Now that I know, I’M GONNA DO IT!” He has learned to only jump up on the sofa if he’s invited and to get off immediately, when told “OFF!” He is completely house-broken and very content in his crate. He LOVES his foster fur siblings (2 male and 2 female Boxers). He has made friends with 3 little dogs and 3 other big dogs that have come here (I am a pet-sitter!). Once he sniffs the new dogs and calms down (after about 20 minutes) he’s been great with them. He loves other dogs! BUT, he is significantly challenged when it comes to his new introduction manners! We are going to work with a dog behaviorist to correct this issue.

He loves to run and play in the yard, but he doesn’t mind being a couch potato. When he runs, his battery gets depleted in about 90 seconds! He loves his doggie playmates, but if he had to choose, he would choose to be with his humans. He just loves to snuggle and put as much of his body as possible across your lap (his big noggin alone takes up most of my lap!).

He will stare into your eyes, with a giant smile, just beaming love at you! He has so much love and devotion to give some very lucky humans... he can’t wait to find you!!!

8/27/19: Update on Weezer:
We worked with a dog behaviorist for about 3 hours yesterday. The main issue I was concerned about is how Weezer acts when he first meets a new dog, which in a word is... horrible. He really does love other dogs, once he gets past the introduction. Once he gets to know them well, as he does our dogs, they are best friends. They play and snuggle with each other nonstop!

The behaviorist assessed Weezer as VERY confident-dominant, not showing any aggression. Dominance is a trait many dogs have, but when it is at such a high level, as with Weezer, it really needs to be managed. This means he absolutely needs a strong, confident leader who will be committed to the rules and boundaries Weezer needs in order to achieve his life goal (of being a GOOD BOY!). It’s simple things that Weezer is 100% willing to do (like not walk in front of you during a walk and not be allowed on the sofa unless he is invited). He will need to meet other dogs carefully - ideally on a walk. And, he will probably never be a good dog park dog.

He will be the BEST GOOD BOY you’ve ever known if you are willing to work with him!

9/4/19: Weezer is SUCH A GOOD BOY!!! He LOVES LOVES LOVES his crate. Whenever we put him inside his crate, it’s nap time - and he never argues! He goes right to snoozing! He rarely ever barks or whines (ever). He NEVER has accidents in the house. In fact, he doesn’t need to go outside very often. He would rather “hold it” and stay inside with his humans than go outside and sniff around. He is not a “marker” (wanting to pee on everything) - even on walks. He rarely ever jumps up on people. He doesn’t run off (even with no fenced yard - even when he sees a deer or a worker across the street). He has no food aggression. He lets me hug and squeeze his head and kiss his face (I do this A LOT!). I smother him with hugs and kisses... and he loves it. A million kisses would never be enough for Weezie!! He’s a love sponge.

He simply adores and worships his humans. He loves to stare at us, desperately trying to communicate that his heart is exploding with devotion! Did I mention he also loves other dogs??? He has gotten so much better at introductions. He plays and snuggles with his foster brothers and sisters nonstop. This big boy is so special. ️
