Jack - 3-4 years old (Fostered in Wilmington, NC)

Jack is a very sweet, slightly skittish male boxer. Jack was found as a stray. He is very underweight -- by about 20 pounds, currently weighing in at about 52 lbs, and we've had a hard time getting him to gain weight, although he loves to eat. Jack loves walks and people -- he thinks everyone who walks by wants to be his friend and he tends to pull, but we are working on it. Jack is not quite sure how to play with other dogs or even humans and shies away from rough activity. He loves to be around kids, but his tail is not docked he has been known to leave bruises with his overly excited boxer wiggle. Jack has a hard time settling down when he meets new people friends -- we are working on that as well, but he does not understand personal space at all. Interestingly, when he is ready to settle down, he prefers not to snuggle with his human friends and instead likes his own space. Jack is heart worm positive and has been found to have some kidney issues that we are currently treating as an infection. Once the course of antibiotics is finished, we hope to have a better picture of what is going on and we hope to begin heart worm treatment. We also hope that an infection and/or heart worms is the cause of his inability to gain weight.

7/6/19: The kids lemonade stand for Jack to raise funds for his medical needs raised $151.75! Special thanks to Lynnette Steffee and her co-worker who each donated generously and another couple in town from Goldsboro who told the kids they were following on FB and also made a generous donation. The owner of Port City Escape also came out with a generous donation... We'll make sure the money gets to the right place!
