Benny - 5 years old (Fostered in Fayetteville, NC)

This little guy has been with us for a little over a week. His owner turned him in to the Sheriff’s office along with 4 other dogs. Poor Benny became very anxious at the shelter. When he finally arrived at our home he had a hard time adjusting. His anxiety was getting the best of him. After a lot of patience he is now getting comfortable with our routine and he’s calmed down a great deal.
What we know about him so far is that he is very sweet and submissive. He has gotten along very well with all of the dogs he’s met so far. He will fiercely defend your home against moles, skinks, squirrels, birds and vacuum cleaners. He wants to be with his people and also enjoys the company of other dogs. Getting in the crate isn’t something he’ll do on his own, but he doesn’t cause any damage to his bedding or the crate while in there. He is a counter surfer, likes to jump on you and is always moving at full speed. He is not recommended for a family with small children or elderly folks for this reason. He will require a good bit of training because he obviously had none of that. Even so, we adore him and have been enjoying being part of his transformation.

5.6 Update

I’m happy to report that foster Benny is doing very well. A few weeks after his neuter we began to see some positive changes. His obsession with sniffing everything in the air and marking every tree and shrub has been slowly fading. Walks are more enjoyable. Some days the walks are easier than others, but for the most part there is a lot less pulling and more listening to my instructions. We’re still working on that jumping up on people issue. Good thing he’s just a little guy!

There’s no more nervous anxiety. He’ll happily follow a peanut butter Kong into his crate. We’ve left him loose in the house for several hours at a time with no damage to report.

He loves every toy, bone and chew in the toy box. He’ll climb inside if necessary to retrieve just the right ones. It’s not unusual to find most of toys scattered about the family room. He definitely loves people and longs to be loved back. As long as you're touching him, he’s happy. My hope is that he finds a family who likes to go on daily walks, will take him along to interesting places and wants to spend lots of time with him.
