Rex's body was too sick to overcome all of his health problems. Our thanks to his wonderful foster mom who took lots of time to love and care for this boy, so he knew nothing but love at the end of his life and he didn't pass away at the shelter with no one there to love him.
Moses had a hard life.  He was a sweet guy and in the short time she had him his foster mom fell in love with him. He knew love at the end.
Mugsy left us April 11, 2005--he came to us on March 19, 2004, so he was with us just a little over a year.  We miss him so much.  We miss his kisses, his wagging tail, his sweet, sad eyes and his perfectly matched white socks. We miss him discovering the "other dog" (his reflection) in the skylights, his gentle nudges to be remembered at the dinner table.  He could curl into such a small ball it always amazed us.  If you dropped his or Tara's (his fur sister's) leash, he would pick it up and walk himself (or her) for us.  If you took him for a ride, he perched himself next to you--always riding shotgun.  The neighbors were in awe over his squirrel-chasing abilities and how high he could jump up the trees trying to get them. And Tara misses her friend.  We had hoped to give him a long and happy life with us. We hope it was at least a happy one--we know it was for us. It was very hard to say goodbye, but he is in a better place now, and can chase all the squirrels he wants.
Forest came into rescue showing signs of neglect and abuse. He had a terrible scar around his neck from a collar that was too tight, all his teeth had been ground down, his body showed signs of extended poor nutrition, and he had a class 5 of 5 heart murmur. He flourished in the rescue's care and was adopted by his foster Mom. He developed into quite the little busybody and bundle of energy, and he took great delight in getting into any and all mischief he could (or could create!). One of his favorite past times was window surfing, to the point that his Mom had to put kiddie gates or furniture in front of all the windows! He was a devoted companion who walked so close to her that he literally walked on the backs of her shoes, and he never left her side. He absolutely loved life and took great joy in everything around him.  Many in the rescue knew him by his nickname "Froggie" because he had the cutest resemblance to a frog. We all knew that his heart couldn't hold out forever, and on January 25th he collapsed at his Mom's feet shortly after she got home from work. She tried to revive him to no avail, and he died in her arms, where he'd spent so many hours before. He is deeply missed but remembered with great love and many smiles.
When every one else abandoned her, Salena's foster mom stood by her and loved her until the end.  When Salena was diagnosed with a brain tumor, her foster mom agreed to keep her as long as she had.  Salena knew lots of great times in her last six months, evening visits to work, lots of yogurt, fun walks, and road trips up north.
Rosie came into our lives in October 2003 and from the moment we saw her smiling eyes, we were in love.  We have so many wonderful memories of our Rosie-Girl. She loved to go exploring in the woods and relax under the magnolia tree.  She loved to go to the beach and play in the sand and splash in the waves.  She loved her younger sister, Daisy and would play with her for hours even when she was too tired.  Her “squishy face” was always laughing and her “piggly-wiggly” was always wagging.

In the end, her body just couldn’t keep up with her spirit.  When her eyes stopped smiling, we knew she was ready to go.
Sarge, my first foster, Grandma's Best Boy.  I was terrified the day he came into my life, I didn't think he would live to make it to my house.  He looked so bad and smelled even worse. I'd never seen anything that skinny.  He stood waiting for us and I could tell he was asleep on his feet.  His eyes were gooky and runny, he looked too dirty to touch.  He had a croupy cough. It was the middle of January and freezing outside, but I had to roll a window down partway in order to breathe.  I was a brand new foster home, hadn't been approved but a day or two and was scared to death of this scrawny dog with no life or hope in his eyes.  But, he stole my heart by inching closing and closer to me in the car, he just craved a soft word and a gentle touch.  I whispered, "hold on, sweet boy....I'll take care of you, just hold on."
Joe and Evonne said that regardless of the lab results, they wanted to adopt Mercedes.  When they met Mercedes they fell in love.  We learned the lab results were positive for cancer.  She was put on antiboitics for a shallow cough.  They decided that when the course of drugs was completed, Merecdes would have an xray to confirm if the cancer had gone to her lungs.   During this time Mercedes' tore her ACL and was having difficulty walking.  Mercedes was helped to the bridge.   Mercedes was a stoic, loving and gentle girl.  Her favorite part of going to the dog park was being around the humans, where she was very popular.   We are very grateful that we have people such as Joe and Evonne take in our rescue dogs and make their lives comfortable and filled with good care and love, for as long as they have.  We need families who have such a strong commitment to the well-being of animals - even when faced with tough medical decisions.
Grover came into rescue just hours before he was to be put to sleep.  CBR
foster Mom went into the shelter, and he'd obviously been neglected and
abused. She helped him in the car and he cried all the way home with his paw on his foster Mommy's shoulder.  He was such a funny, happy guy and had the most expressive face and eyes that he reminded his foster Mom of Kramer on Seinfeld!  He was so happy...even to the end.

He was HW positive and a few months later despite CBR's best efforts, his
health issues, trauma and neglect started to show.  After several collapses and resuscitations the vet determined dear Grover's heart just couldn't hold
on any longer and nothing more could be done.  His foster Mom brought him home for a bit more time with his fur family then held him in her arms, gave him his favorite treat, and held him as he passed to The Bridge.  Run free, sweet Grover!
From that day, for the next 2 1/2 years, Sarge belonged to all of us.  He was the gentlest, most easy-going, undemanding member of the entire family and we adored him.  It rocked our world to hear the cancer diagnosis, we never saw it coming.  When the time came, Paul lovingly buried him under an old oak tree where he loved to run.  I kept his collar, my family knows to bury it with me when my time comes.  I plan on putting it on Sarge's neck at the Rainbow Bridge and crossing over it with him.
Jasper came to us with nerve damage in one of his hind legs.  He was a sweet fellow that everyone who met him fell in love with.  He was with us for a few months and we were considering having to amputate his leg, when his foster mom found a lump.  His cancer had spread rapidly.  His foster mom gave Jasper a loving home until the end.  We are thankful for our foster families!!
Though it was hard for all of us, we would like to thank Dr. Erik Strunck and Addie Knisely for helping us do the last thing we could for Rosie.  We said our final goodbyes at Rosie’s secret waterfall in the backyard.  In her final moments, she was surrounded by love.  We held her head in our hands and told her how much we loved her. We are relieved that she is no longer suffering and that she is in a better place but we miss her so much and wish we had more time with her.

“You belong among the wildflowers, you belong somewhere close to me, far away from your trouble and worry, you belong somewhere you feel free”
Zack Earnhardt was loved dearly by his family. He succombed to cancer at the young age of 6 years and 11 months.  Zack was a rescued Boxer. During the first 4 years of his life, he was abandoned twice and left outside with a chain too small (he bore the scar) and little food or water. But instead of being mean and distrusting, all we ever saw from him was love, trust and a desire to be petted and play.  He loved everyone (except the squirrels in back yard!). One of Zack's favorite things was laying on the floor and observing everyone and everything going on.  We often said Zack's name should have been "Curious George" because he always wanted to be in the know and whenever possible in the middle. Zack will be greatly missed. He was such a wonderful pet and part of our family.
Gracie came into our lives a sick little puppy. Her Foster Mom did everything for her to make her well. Gracie grew into a beautiful young girl but unfortunately there were things wrong that no amount of love could make better. We all know she is in a better place and she will always be in our hearts.
On Memorial Day Weekend 2004, Natasha was saved just in the nick of time.  After a few minor medical problems, she turned into a spirited and happy pet. She loved to go for walks and would always want to chase the ducks in the neighborhood. Anytime Nathasha, who I nicknamed 'Tasha, saw kids or any people, it was time to overwhelm them with hugs and kisses. She also loved riding in the car, sticking her snout out the wind and sniffing everything going by. When we moved to Florida, Natasha didn't miss a beat. She did great adapting to living in motel rooms and then a new apartment. Upon returning to NC, once again, she did great. For a dog from an abused or neglected background, "Tasha was certainly well adusted. Everywhere she went, she found plenty friends. Plenty of humans and even a dog every now and then. Tasha was what you would call an Alpha dog and sometimes could be a little "scrappy" with other female dogs. Labor Day Weekend 2005, Natasha began having seizures. Her personality began to change. Finally, in Febraury the vets at NC State diagnosed a brain tumor. Even though Natasha did show improvement from time to time, we all knew she was liviing on borrowed time. Finally, on May 7, 2006, the time came. Natasha's remains have been donated to the NC State Vet School, so they can further research this dreaded disease, so common in Boxers. I can only say that I am eternally grateful for the magical love an inspiration that can only come from "being owned" by one of these  wonderful creatures......You can run, play and wag your little nub again old girl, free of pain and suffering
Allie Conner, a fine Boxer from Charlotte, NC, will be greatly missed by her owner Dennis Conner.

Sable.  A foster that was dumped at the shelter by her previous owners quickly stole the hearts of all in her foster home both human and canine. She reminded them all the importance of forgiving those whose have hurt us, as she never held anyone responsible for the heartache she had gone through.  Her eyes were filled with nothing but kindness and her butt bounded with boxer wiggles. Due to a sad and very unexpected accident, Sable has gone on to the Rainbow Bridge. We are just glad that those who had nothing but love for her surrounded her during her last days. Our sympathies go out to Sable's foster and adopted family.
Addie.  Sweet Addie was adopted in December, 2003.  Unexpectedly, Addie became ill and passed away.  She is greatly missed by her family.  We extend our condolences to Addie's family.
Roc came into rescue a happy-go-lucky bouncing boxer boy.  Always ready to lay his head in your lap to get his ears scratched or his belly rubbed. However, underneath this clownish exterior lurked demons that Roc was never able to overcome.  Those demons, being certain characteristics that made him obsessed by cats.  Sometimes obsessions become too much to overcome and they get in the way of a normal, happy life.  Such was the case for Roc.  Roc will always be remembered by his foster mom for his clownish ways of making her laugh.  At least in the short period he was in foster care, he knew what it was like to be loved and cared for.  Roc has now crossed over the Rainbow Bridge and is free of all of his demons and his past.  He’s there with the many who have passed before him and welcomed him home.
Bodie came into our lives through CBR on his 12th birthday. He was such a gift to us and I am honored that he was a part of my family. Bodie had a way of touching everyone that met him. His deep brown eyes held such wisdom and kindness. He lived his life with us in dignity fitting an elderly gentleman. Our house is empty without him but his spirit and lessons that he taught us remain. May he be eternally youthful and healthy. We love you.

Jackson was only with us for a few weeks before we lost him to heartworms, but just that short time was worth every moment.
Dear Chloe Marie, AKA Beanie Weenie,

Words can not express how much you had touched all of our lives and how thankful we are to you for that gift. I can tell everyone all day long the story of the day that we rescued you from the shelter, but it really was you who rescued us. You changed the hearts of so many people and your prescence will be sorely missed. You will forever be in our hearts and our souls, our Beanie Weanie. We Love You!!!!!!!

Hobo was a special rescue dog that came to me at the age of 8 weeks.  His sweet spirit was never lost on anyone.  His ability to make even those who were "pet people" love him was nothing short of amazing.  Every night before bed, I told him these three words:  You're my heart.  He was God's special gift to me. You'll always be my heart!
Maxwell came to us on a foggy winter night. He settled into the family as if he had always been there. It was decided that Max had found his forever home. We always laughed at his antics. If he had been a skin boy he would have worn a bow tie and a bowler! His family and extended family loved him very much. He is missed by his humans and his fur family.  Maxwell crossed to the bridge on December 29, 2006.

Ray was a special rescue that came to us from a shelter in N.C. One of our directors fostered him and instantly fell in love. Ray had a huge softball sized wound on his back; open, bloody, and raw. A long jagged wound followed his back all the way down, the vet thought he went under a barbed wire fence or someone poured a chemical down his back. His spirit never expressesed the pain his body felt.

After many years in foster care getting better Ray was adopted. We are so happy Ray was a part of the CBR foster fam
Roxie

I still remember when I talked to her foster mom before she arrived and she said "oh you'll love her - she's so beautiful - she looks like a little cow!" and I had no idea what that meant until I saw her - we called her Boxy Roxie ... her shape the product of many puppies I'm sure ... but she was still so beautiful and well mannered - she never complained about anything and she was a WORLD CLASS soccer player!

Niki - Sept. 12, 1992 - May 3, 2007

At 2 years of age, Niki was labeled unadoptable due to the neglect and abuse she had suffered.  Our male boxer, Haji, had other ideas and he was in love the minute he saw her.  He taught her how to be a happy dog, a self-confident dog, and she was the light of his, and our, life.  For more than 12 years she ruled our little family of cats and dogs with a firm yet benevolent paw.  As she aged and became more and more frail she maintained her dignity and her joy for life.  She was never too old to smell the flowers, chase a butterfly, or take a nice roll in the grass.  And she did her little happy dance, in slow motion, up to the very end.  You've left the worn old body behind, Niki Noodle Girl, and now your spirit can soar.

In Memory of Chance (aka Chancey "Danger" Brown)  12-08-07
Chance was adopted in 2002 and gave us the best 5 years of our lives. He developed heart disease and a tumor on his lung that was squishing his trachea and esophagus; he was helped over the rainbow bridge on Dec. 8, 2007.

Chance loved to be outside, especially at the beach where he would play in the water, chase the birds and even try to eat our fishing bait.  He never met a squeaker toy he didn't like, or couldn't rip to shreads.  He loved being with his family and showed it with lots of kisses and ear nibbles.

We all loved and adored you Chance. Not a day will go by that we won't think of you and miss you terribly. I will miss you most of all, my stinker. We went through a lot together. It was your wiggly butt and wagging nub that I looked forward to at the end of every day. You will forever be loved and never forgotten.

In loving memory of Frazier
Ziggy came into our home two months ago. We fostered him until we could find him a home.  He came into our lives full of love, joy and happiness. Ziggy loves to hum to you like a grunting old man for attention. He was so wonderful with children of all ages. He became a great buddy to our two boxers. Ziggy had heartworms and Carolina Boxer Rescue opened the door to provided help for him. Ziggy has passed away due to complications. We want to thank the Carolina Boxer Rescue for their help and efforts.
We would like to remember our good friends, Mike and Judy Agner, who lost their beloved "Jack" recently.  He was something special and knew how to be a wonderful Kite Dog. He will be remembered.

He loved everyone he saw, gave endless hugs, and slept with his head on my shoulder.  Jackson was a special kind of dog that doesn't come along very often and will be forever missed.  We love you Jackson!
