January 14, 2012... Zena found a foster home for Christmas!! She is living with a male Dachshund and a male bulldog and doing GREAT! She still has her puppy energy and would love to find a home with a runner or active family! Zena loves dog toys and can amuse herself playing with her toys! She especially loves the squeaky ones!
She is doing well in the fenced in yard, in her crate and in the house. Zena is totally house trained now and sleeps all night! Currently, she eats her dinner in her crate and gets to chew a big knuckle bone in her crate. There have been NO food or treat issues with the other dogs!
Zena loves all people and kids! The three things her foster home is working on are 1) better leash walking, 2) not jumping up on the furniture and 3) not jumping up on people.
August 30, 2011... Zena is currently at Highland Kennels enrolled in an obedience class. Zena had been having some issues with food and Highland Kennels has so very generously offered to take Zena into their program. Cbr and Zena are so grateful to them!! Here are the updates from Highland Kennels for her first 2 weeks:
Week One: Zena is a real sweetie. She is getting out 3-4 times a day for training, exercise and socialization. No food issues with people, but still problems with dogs. She is currently being worked around food with Lobo, a sweet outgoing shelter dog. Once she does well with Lobo, we will move on to different dogs.Zena knows “leave it” and is working on other commands as well. She is in very good hands with Lisa and Ken.
Week Two: Zena still has food aggression with dogs but is beginning to respond better as we introduce different dogs. She is beginning to look away with the occasional growl instead of the original behaviors. They can’t get any reaction with chews, cans, etc. with people, though. Not ready yet, but making great improvements.
June 23, 2011... Zena the Warrior Princess lives up to her name! She is just full of herself! She is only 6 months old with a clean bill of health. She is also spayed, crate trained, and 98% house trained!! She gets along great with my male Rhett they play play play!!! She is very vocal when she plays lots of growling but its all in good fun! She has been around my 1 year old nephew and likes him ok but she is too much puppy for such a little fella. She needs some work walking on a leash but I think a lot of it is everything is new to her so she just feels the need to see it all at her speed not mine. But thats something we are working on. She does sit on command. She is a typical puppy into everything but thats when she gets bored and trys to amuse herself. If you want a couch potato or a dog to just chill out with SHE IS NOT THE GIRL FOR YOU!!! She's like Zena always on the move, always looking for a new adventure. She is a good bug, lizard, and frog chaser! She sleeps in her crate so she isn't allowed on the bed..... well this morning she was singing and i looked at her and she was on my bed and when I looked at her she put her paws over her eyes like you can't see me.... She is amusing to have around and she isn't a scardy girl. She would make a great guard dog - she has a bark that will make you stop and think twice! Now I've sung her praises I must tell you she does have a flaw. She has some food aggression issues. I have to feed her seperate and before she can rejoin the group all bowls have to be picked up. No giving treats as a group this is going fine at my house. If you don't have another dog this would never be a problem. She isn't aggressive with me at ALL. She takes treats just as gentle as can be. The food aggression is only towards dogs. This is an issue I'm working on and she has gotten better it just takes time. She is a sweet girl who loves attention she just doesn't like to share her food with her furry friends. She is currently just hanging out giving Rhett a run for his money till her furever home calls!
