October 23, 2008... It is with a heavy heart that we must share the news that Rex died tonight at the vet’s office, in his foster mom's arms. It seems the heartworm treatment was just to much for his body to take. We are all devastated by his death.
Heartworm disease is so easily preventable with a simple, monthly pill. Please remember to keep all of your pets on heartworm prevention throughout the year so that they never have to go through the difficult and, often, painful treatment of this disease.
October 20, 2008... Rex started his heartworm treatment last week. It seems that he is having a bad reaction to the treatment. He is currently staying overnight at the vet office receiving around the clock care. Please keep Rex in your thoughts. We are all praying that he will pull through. He is such a great dog who truly deserves a chance at a great life!!
September 19, 2008... Rex is 50 pounds, approximately 3 years old. One of his eyes is clouded over and not functional, according to the vet. Not sure how that happened, but he gets around just fine. He is heartworm positive and will be starting treatment soon. He gets along great with other dogs! He barks at cats and has not had any direct contact with mine (I have a blind cat, a senior cat, and one with a deformed paw so I am extra protective of them). Rex is super friendly with humans, his whole butt wiggles when he sees you. Loves to sleep on the couch, is house trained so far as I can tell (no accidents). He will be neutered after heartworm treatment. He loves to give kisses.
