January 18, 2011... Max- He was surrendered by his owners, 2 adults and a 13 year old, because they had to move to Australia with work. They had planned to take Max with them but found out it was almost impossible to rent there with an indoor dog his size and with the heat being an outdoor dog was not an option. He is 5 years old and was born on Nov. 14, 2006. He is neutered and UTD on his shots, flea preventive and heartworm meds. He also has a micro-chip in case he ever gets separated from his owners. Max loves to play, especially fetch with his favorite squeaky ball. Sometimes he will go get it and want you to chase him around and try to get it back. He is not used to playing with other dogs but has never showed any aggression towards other animals. He has never been around cats but he may think they are toys. Max is house trained and is currently learning to be crate trained. He loves most any toy, especially balls, soft squirrel stuffed toys, and tug of war toys. He knows basic commands like: sit, stay, laydown, give howdy (hand shake), no, come, and back.
He loves to chase squirrels. He lived on two acres with woods and would sit and stalk them until the right time to chase them, he’s never caught one…. yet. This is one of his favorite things to do. If you say the word squirrel he will instantly go to a window if inside and start looking for one to be running around in the yard. If outside he will run around and look up trees, he’s so smart. If he is playing outside he will stop and chase one if it’s running around so you must be careful if he isn’t on a leash or not in a fenced area. If you call his name, say no, or whistle he will usually stop mid chase. He listens very well but he does get very excited at times.
Max loves to go for rides in vehicles or anything he feels secure in that moves. This is another one of his most favorite things to do. If you say ride, go, or bye-bye he will be ready to for a car ride. He loves to go on boat rides also but doesn’t like to swim in deep water. He has a dog life vest he wears when in a boat but doesn’t like swimming unless he can reach the bottom. He loves to play in water and doesn’t mind getting a bath. He doesn’t mind long car rides as long as he gets to stop and walk around every now and again. He is used to being walked with a harness on not a collar and leash. He likes to go for walks but be aware of squirrel activity, he will. Max loves to go camping also, really anything outdoors. Most of all he just wants to be with his loving owners.
He is fed once daily and eats dry dog food, softer ones like Kibbles N Bits, and loves soft treats. He doesn’t like being away from his owners and will not eat from strangers. So if you travel a lot and would be putting him in a kennel often Max may not be the right dog for you. His favorite treat is any flavor Canine Carry Outs. He will sit and offer you his paw if he sees you getting one. He’s very smart about remembering where you store his treats so if you get close to that area he may sit down and look at you real sweet…hoping you will give him one. He loves special treats like Busy Chewnola or peanut butter flavored Busy Bones. He does have a sensitive stomach when it comes to raw hide bones so limiting those would be good for him. He drinks a lot of water so it is important to make sure he has plenty. He is not destructive and can be left inside alone and doesn’t normally mess with anything. Max would do best in a home with older children.
Max has lots of character and personality. He is used to being spoiled and loved on by his owners. Max is a great and loyal dog. So if you are looking for a well behaved Boxer that loves being outdoors, chasing squirrels, riding in cars, and being with the ones who love him Max is a great match for you.
