December 5, 2010... Hope has been with us for 6 weeks now and is doing well. She is good with other dogs (both male and female), cats and children. Hope is AMAZING with my 11 month old son. I have watched their interaction very closely and Hope is very tolerant of him. She lets my son crawl over her, bounce on her and pull at her lips like it's no big deal (I do always correct my son when he's being rough with her). Hope has a TON of energy and would do well with someone who is active. I think she'd love to go for walks every day. And, she is a JOY to walk. She does so well on leash! She meets other dogs and people very well when we are out. Hope is house and crate trained. I do crate her with one of my dogs as she can get anxious in the crate alone. We have a huge crate and I think they both enjoy having company. Hope does need to be crated when we are out. She will get herself into trouble otherwise (she has a thing for pulling toilet paper off of the roll and eating clean diapers off of the changing table... strange girl). We think Hope was a stray for quite some time before coming into rescue. She has a "survival instinct" that gets her into trouble occasionally. She will counter surf and get into the trash when we turn our backs. We have learned to put everything away and keep bathroom doors closed and this solves the problem!! Hope is a beautiful dog with a great personality. She does have a little anxiety when left alone. She could never be closed off in a room by herself, but she does fine crated. She does best when crated with another dog but we have crated her alone with no problems. And, we are working on breaking her of counter surfing and trash picking. Hope is a wonderful dog who would do well with an active owner. She is wonderful with kids and other animals. I'll try to get some better pics of her - she is really pretty but it's tough to get her to sit still! I'll also try to get a video of my son and Hope - you'd be amazed at what she tolerates from him! Hope is heartworm postive but will be starting treatment in the next couple of weeks. She is spayed and up to date with her shots.
September 27, 2010.... Our sweet Hope has just finished a 10 week training class at Highland Kennels. We would like to thank them for donating their time to help Hope overcome her separation anxiety issues. We were told that Hope did great during her training course. She met other dogs during her stay and did very well. Her trainer said that she just needs more structure in her life. She needs daily exercise and needs to "work" for everything, meaning she must first sit before getting her food, treats or a toy. Hope needs a home that will be committed to continuing this training (we have a video from the training facility which describes how to continue Hope's training). Hope gets along well with all other dogs and with all people, including children. Hope is such a sweet girl who listens well and gives kisses on cue!! She has the BEST ears and most gentle personality.
April 24, 2010... Hope has come a long ways in her behavioral class. She graduated on April 20th! I thought I would share a picture with you. She now knows sit, sit/lay, sit/lay/stay, come & wait. She also walks real well on a leash. I am working on her kenneling anxieties at home.
Hope is a very calm, beautiful loving boxer. She would make anybody a very sweet addition to their family.
April 3, 2019... It seems like a lot has gone on with Hope since the last time I sent in an update. Hope has been spayed. She and her foster brother and sister and I have moved into a new home. While doing that I needed to let someone else keep Hope until I got a fence built. That was quite the experience for Hope. She did alright at the other home until she somehow got pinned into a room. She does not like to be confined at all. Now that she is back with me she seems sooo calm and right at home. 2 weeks ago we started obedience classes together. I really think she enjoys the one on one time with me. She behaves quite well in class and is learning a lot. She knows sit, release, come. We are working on her kenneling, trying to overcome her not liking to be confined. I think Hope would make the right person a great companion. She is very loving, loyal and calm and, a very beautiful boxer.
January 26, 2010... Hope has recently been spayed and she is doing well. She has calmed down quite a bit and is really comfortable in my home. Hope and her boxer brother are getting along just fine. They like to play a lot. Hope is now completely house trained and will sit when given a treat. She is such a loving good natured dog when you get to know her. Hope is still looking for her forever home.
December 16, 2009... Hope is doing well in her foster home. It has taken a while but she has finally settled down and has started to relax. She is now house trained. She will ask to go outside to go to the bathroom. She has learned some manners, like sit & no. She has a lot of energy and needs a lot of attention. She does get along well with her foster brother. I don’t have a cat or young children, so I do not know how well she would do around either one of them.
October 23, 2009... Hope has settled into her new foster home real well. She is a very loving well mannered dog. She has quite the little personality. She gets along well with her foster brother. We are working on a few bad habits she has like wanting to nip at me when she wants attention and stealing people food off of the counter when left out by accident. She has figured out how to open a door by turning the door knob. So I have learned to turn the lock on the door knobs. She is quite smart.
