FIONA
October 11, 2010...  Fiona loves to be with people!  She is a quiet, calm girl except when she is running and wanting you to play with her- then she bounces, nub wags, kidney beans and does all those funny, cute things boxers do to entice you to play with them. She loves her crate and goes in voluntarily and without any problem. Everyone has fallen in love with her! When she went for her first Heartworm Treatment Monday everyone at the vet’s admired how beautiful and well behaved she was.  Her treatment went well and  after a good night’s sleep is almost back to normal. We are taking it slow and soon she will be ready for her furever home. Hopefully one with kids! She loves little kiddos. She met two little girls yesterday and did not lick them at all- she was so soft and gentle with them.  Her licking has subsided - only a special lick every now and then.  In almost a month- she has not barked at all!

Here is a special note- she ignored all the dogs at the vet’s office and did not even glance their way. At home she has made three new doggie friends through the fence and waits to see them as they take their morning walk.  She wags her nub and is so cute wanting to play with them-I think as she becomes more balanced through settling in and feeling more secure she will be ready to transition to actually meeting them on the “outside’.

September 19, 2010...  Good news! After an extensive vet check - the news is good- her heart, lungs, kidneys are in great shape to get ready for her heart worm treatment.
Fiona is one smart cookie! In one week she has learned so much in her new foster home- she is now crate trained and sits on command (working on down and stay). She is an amazing girl! She is not a barker, does not beg for food, and is very quiet and content lying beside you- although she sometimes wants to be a lap puppy.  I had a houseful of company this week end and she did so well- when we were eating at the table after one “no” she would go to her crate and go to sleep, and was so friendly and cute with everyone.
She loves riding in the boat and running and playing on the beach and swimming in the water!
PS- she is a great little snuggler- but watch out for her tongue ‘cause she will definitely lick you to death!

August 9, 2010... Fiona has been boarded since mid-July.  She and the dog in her previous foster home did not get along. Fiona would probably do best as an only dog but might be OK with a submissive male dog.  She has been visited by a trainer during her boarding stay to work on her dog aggression issues.  I went to visit Fiona over the weekend.  It was my first time meeting her and I fell in love!!  She is a beautiful girl and so very sweet!!!  I took her for a walk and she did very well on the leash.  She did see another dog being walked in the distance but she didn't fixate on it.  I was able to say "Fiona come" and she turned right around and walked with me.  After our walk, we sat in the shade so I could give her some belly rubs.  She thanked me with many kisses!!  I really enjoyed my visit with Fiona!  If I was looking for a female boxer I would seriously consider Fiona!  She may not be a dog you can take to a dog park but she is loving and sweet with people. She does need to continue to work on ignoring other dogs while walking on a leash but this can be improved with the help of a trainer.  In my short experience with Fiona and her reaction to another dog on our walk I felt she did pretty well!  If you are looking for a female boxer please consider Fiona.  She is so wonderful!  I am already looking forward to my next visit with her!!!

July 18, 2010...  Fiona has filled out nicely and we have cut back to feeding 2x daily. She is such a beautiful Boxer and will make the perfect companion for her lucky adopter. She  still doesn't play with toys except for chewing her favorite bone but loves running and leaping in the back yard. We call this fun run the Boxer Cannon Ball run, all of you Boxer lovers know what we mean! She loves everyone she meets and the feeling is mutual, who can resist those warm brown eyes & big kisses & Boxer hugs. She will begin some professional training soon from a wonderful trainer Adam of Defined Obedience, what a lucky & deserving girl !

June 28, 2010...  Fiona was spayed over two weeks ago and is doing fine. We are feeding her 3x daily in order to put some weight on her and it is finally working. She is completely crate trained, still a quiet girl, never barks or whines. We found that she loves those natural butcher bones especially when we fill it with peanut butter.

She enjoys the outdoors in the cool mornings but understandably is quick to run inside when the afternoon heat arrives. She is a very gentle happy girl who loves to be close by your side. Due to the heat we have been giving her short training sessions outside about 4x daily. She heels beautifully on my left side when walking, makes nice tight turns and sits when we stop. She responds to the "come" command off leash and will run to us across the yard, ears flapping and so happy ! Smart girl & eager to learn.

June 26, 2010...  Fiona really needs to be an only dog. She will tolerate a completely submissive dog who has no interest in her but she will not socialize with a dog. She is however very loving & gentle with all people, adults & children, she has met.

June 13, 2010...  Sweet beautiful girl, loves to kiss! She's fawn & white with a black mask. Her glowing coat has rich reddish hues. She's a tall girl and needs to fill out a bit, but we're working on that and it won't be long. The shelter estimated her to be approx. 5 yrs old and she will need to be spayed. Right now she is new to CBR and just getting used to her foster home & family. She is gentle, sweet and eager to please her human friends. She is unsure of her fur brother as he is a big and active male boxer. She's not quite ready for him and she takes a defensive posture. She is relaxed with her 10 yr old fur sister who is a calm and more submissive dog. It's really too early too accurately assess her but for now we would say she would be happiest in a
calmer home as either an only dog or with calm submissive dogs. She's very gentle & loving with our two children ages 8 & 12.
More to come as we get to know Fiona.
