December 4, 2011... Callie is only 1 1/2 years old, but her short life has been a difficult one. She was taken to the shelter because her owner couldn't afford to care for her when her hind leg was broken. She also had hook worms and a skin condition. Even though she didn't receive the most ideal treatment for her leg , it has healed and she uses it a little more every day. Two weeks after leaving the shelter the worms are gone, she's gaining weight, her skin is healing and the hair is growing back. Physically she was broken, but her spirit is strong. She is such a happy little girl.
This girl loves people and gets along great with the other dogs in the house, as she is very submissive. She is almost completely housebroken, knows some basic commands, is eager to please and is working on not pouncing on the cats. Callie tested negative for heartworm and will have a follow up X-ray done on her leg in a few weeks, but so far the doctor thinks she is recovering nicely.
Callie would do best in a house with another dog. She doesn't like to be alone in the house and prefers sleeping in the living room with the rest of the pack to sleeping in the bedroom without them. Of course sleeping on the bed would be a different story I'm sure. She is crated during the day when nobody is home to keep her out of any mischief and she's done just fine.
