BUFFY
January 15, 2012...  The diagnosis of the colonoscopy was "Mild Chronic Lymphoplasmacytic Colitis with Focal Acute Erosive Fibrinopurulent Hemorrhagic Cloitis." The vet is trying to decide if the problem is an immunological response to food, or if she has a fiber response disease that needed more fiber because of bacterial dysbiosis (new term for bacterial overgrowth). He is hoping that she can be maintained on a high fiber diet exclusively (which she is on now). Her stools are looking much better (normal shape and color) but they are still bloody. In about a month she will be tested to see if she is heartworm negative. She is very comfortable in the house and yard, and has become more playful. I walk her every day and take her with me whenever I can. She is still skittish at times, but continues to improve being around strangers, and being in public places. She has always gotten along with other dogs.

October 30, 2011...  Thanks to all of the wonderful donations, Buffy was able to undergo a colonoscopy which revealed Irritable Bowel Disease.  She was placed on prednisone and a special diet and has been doing really well!!  She will be on this diet for at least six weeks.

July 14, 2011...  Buffy is about 7 years old . She still has blood in her stools and is heartworm positive (mild case that she is being treated for...hopefully in 2-3 months when she is checked again she will be heartworm negative). Other wise she is very healthy and active. I had her "fixed" recently, and she is up to date on her shots. On her next trip to the vet I am going to have her microchiped. She has made noticable progress in learning how to relax and just be a dog. She gets along well with other dogs, but still is nervous around people (especially men). She growls at people from time to time (no where near as much as she did when we first got her) but it's not an aggresive growl...it's a I'm unsure of you please don't hurt me growl. I think her problem is that she tries to hard to please instead of just "being a dog." She is a very smart dog and is very loyal and protective once she gets to know you. She growled at us the first day, but hasn't ever since. She loves attention and is not afraid to let you know if she thinks she is not getting enough! She also loves to take walks, and rides well in the car. She would do well as an "only child" but I think she needs the company of another dog to show her how to do things, and another dog (or dogs) will help her relax and feel more comfortable about her surroundings. Like many rescues she has paid the price and is deserving of a forever home.

February 26, 2011...  Buffy has been coming out of her shell in her foster home and is quite comfortable with "her people".  She is still very shy around new people but this has really improved since she first came into rescue.  She is a loyal, smart, fun dog and she has bonded with the other dogs in the home.  Buffy has had some GI issues.  She has seen a vet and is currently trying some holistic medicines.  They seem to be helping for now....  however, if she doesn't have complete resolution of her symptoms she may need a colonoscopy to further diagnose the problem.

September 16, 2010...  BUFFY (recently named so) has been a bitter sweet experience so far. She was very skittish when she arrived. She has gotten much better, but still needs socialization (being around different people). She has been through a lot but she is very smart and I’m sure she will overcome her fears and make a wonderful pet. She is heartworm positive and has blood in her stools (both are being treated). Despite these issues she eats, plays, and sleeps well! Right now we are concentrating on getting her to feel good about her surroundings…it’s almost like she needs to re-learn what it’s like to be a dog (she is making a lot of progress…in fact she sometimes takes Sassy’s spot on the bed and even sleeps in Pete’s bed as well ). We are also starting to work on getting her to be comfortable around “strangers.” She gets along fine with our other two dogs and they are helping her learn that it’s ok (and fun) to be a dog. She certainly isn’t timid when it comes to meal time, and getting attention. She would definitely make a great lap dog.  A special THANKS goes out to Ms Ashley Hayes who rescued Buffy and her mother (who she is now fostering). Her kindness and concern have given both another opportunity to find a “forever” home.
